Announcements published at no charge include those received from a sponsoring society of this Journal, those courses and conferences sponsored by state, regional, national, or international vascular surgical organizations, and university-sponsored continuing medical education courses. E. J. Wylie Memorial Traveling Fellowship Award Deadline, February 15, 2010
The E. J. Wylie Memorial Traveling Fellowship provides the recipient with the opportunity to visit a number of excellent vascular surgery centers in the United States and abroad. Though brief, these visits stimulate academic inspiration, promote international exchange, and foster development of fraternal fellowship in vascular surgery. The E. J. Wylie Memorial Traveling Fellowship of the Lifeline Programs of the American Vascular Association will pay up to $12,000 for expenses of travel, research and clerical help. This award is not intended to support specific research interests but rather to assist the fellow in a unique opportunity for travel and professional exchange within established vascular centers in this country and abroad. Society for Vascular Surgery Lifetime Achievement Award Deadline, March 1, 2010
The Lifetime Achievement Award is the highest honor that the Society bestows on one of its members. Selection for this honor recognizes an individual's outstanding and sustained contributions both to the profession and to the Society, as well as exemplary professional practice and leadership. Candidates for the Lifetime Achievement Award should be individuals who have exhibited outstanding leadership within the specialty as outlined below and who possess exceptional personal integrity and highest standards. Society for Vascular Surgery Medal for Innovation in Vascular Surgery Award Deadline, March 1, 2010
Candidates for the Medal for Innovation in Vascular Surgery must be individuals whose contribution has had a transforming impact on the practice or science of vascular surgery. Eligibility for the award is open to professionals in the specialty of vascular surgery, vascular medicine or vascular research. This includes vascular surgeons, other medical and surgical professionals and non-surgeons involved in vascular research or clinical vascular care. Candidate does not need to be a member of the Society. An individual may be nominated on a singular innovation or a body of work. Lifeline Student Research Fellowship Award Deadline, March 17, 2010
The Lifeline Student Research Fellowship, established by the American Vascular Association, stimulates laboratory and clinical vascular research by undergraduate college students and medical school students registered at North American Universities. Each award will consist of a $3,000 student stipend and a two year complimentary subscription to the Journal of Vascular Surgery. Women's Leadership Training Grant: Deadline March 31, 2010
The Women's Leadership Committee awards a women's leadership training grant for female vascular surgeons age 50 and under who have been in practice a minimum of five years and a maximum of 15. Examples of leadership training opportunities include personal leadership coaching, traveling to meet female leaders, or specific training programs. The Foundation for Accelerated Vascular Research Annual Wylie Scholar Award, Application Deadline March 31, 2010
The Foundation for Accelerated Vascular Research (FAVR) Annual Wylie Scholar Award consists of a 3-year, $150,000 grant given to the most promising vascular surgeon scientists in North America who are dedicated to an academic career involving original, innovative basic laboratory or clinical investigation. FAVR's Wylie Scholar Program is designed to support outstanding surgeons in the initial phase of their academic career, and to provide the financial assistance that will enable their development into academic vascular surgeon-scientists.
Society for Vascular Surgery International Scholars Program, April 5, 2010
The SVS International Scholars Program provides scholarships to qualified young vascular surgeons from countries other than the United States or Canada. The four scholarships, in the amount of $5,000 each, provide scholars with an opportunity to participate in the 2011 Vascular Annual Meeting, June 16-19 in Chicago, and visit clinical, teaching and research activities in North America. Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology 2010 Scientific Sessions, April 8-10, 2010
Held at the San Francisco Hilton, this meeting includes diverse disciplines within the arteriosclerosis, thrombosis and vascular biology communities that allow investigators to explore areas of cross-disciplinary interests. CME Credit Available to JVS Readers
Two Category 1 Continuing Medical Education (CME) Credits can be obtained by successfully answering questions about four articles from each issue of the Journal of Vascular Surgery®. These articles are selected by the Editors because they contain information relevant to vascular surgery practice, and questions are supplied by the authors that can be answered after reading the articles. Access to the CME questions is free and open to the public. After successfully answering the questions, Journal subscribers can print a CME certificate at no cost. For non-subscribers, there is a $10 fee per examination to receive a certificate of completion. CME accreditation is provided by the Society for Vascular Surgery®.
