News items of interest to the vascular surgeon must be received at least 8 weeks before the desired month of publication. Announcements published at no charge include those received from a sponsoring society of this Journal, those courses and conferences sponsored by state, regional, national, or international vascular surgical organizations, and university-sponsored continuing medical education courses. All other news items selected for publication carry a charge of $60.00 US for each insertion, and the fee must accompany the request to publish. CME Credit Available to JVS Readers 

Two Category 1 Continuing Medical Education (CME) Credits can be obtained by successfully answering questions about four articles from each issue of the Journal of Vascular Surgery. These articles are selected by the Editors because they contain information relevant to vascular surgery practice, and questions are supplied by the authors that can be answered after reading the articles. Access to the CME questions is free and open to the public. After successfully answering the questions, Journal subscribers can print a CME certificate at no cost. For non-subscribers, there is a $10 fee per examination to receive a certificate of completion. CME accreditation is provided by the Society for Vascular Surgery. Lifeline Resident Research Prize Deadline, January 5, 2009 

Residents submitting a research abstract may choose to be considered for the Lifeline Resident Research Prize, sponsored by the American Vascular Association. The prize consists of a $5,000 award and one-year complimentary subscription to the Journal of Vascular Surgery (JVS). The prize-winning work is presented at the Vascular Annual Meeting and is considered for publication in the JVS. All abstracts must be submitted electronically via the official submission web site, accessible from the Vascular Annual Meeting page at www.VascularWeb.org

E. J. Wylie Memorial Traveling Fellowship Award Deadline, February 16, 2009 

The E. J. Wylie Memorial Traveling Fellowship provides the recipient with the opportunity to visit a number of excellent vascular surgery centers in the United States and abroad. Though brief, these visits stimulate academic inspiration, promote international exchange, and foster development of fraternal fellowship in vascular surgery. The E. J. Wylie Memorial Traveling Fellowship of the Lifeline Programs of the American Vascular Association will pay up to $12,000 for expenses of travel, research and clerical help. This award is not intended to support specific research interests but rather to assist the fellow in a unique opportunity for travel and professional exchange within established vascular centers in this country and abroad. Society for Vascular Surgery Medal for Innovation in Vascular Surgery Award Deadline, March 1, 2009 

Candidates for the Medal for Innovation in Vascular Surgery must be individuals whose contribution has had a transforming impact on the practice or science of vascular surgery. Eligibility for the award is open to professionals in the specialty of vascular surgery, vascular medicine or vascular research. This includes vascular surgeons, other medical and surgical professionals and non-surgeons involved in vascular research or clinical vascular care. Candidate does not need to be a member of the Society. An individual may be nominated on a singular innovation or a body of work. Society for Vascular Surgery International Scholars Program, March 2, 2009 

The International Scholars Program provides scholarships to qualified young vascular surgeons from countries other than the United States or Canada. Three scholarships in the amount of $7,000 each provide the scholars with an opportunity to participate in the Vascular Annual Meeting and to visit clinical, teaching and research activities in North America. Women's Leadership Training Award Deadline, March 2, 2009 

W. L. Gore, Inc. has generously provided the Society for Vascular Surgery with a grant of $10,000 for leadership training for women vascular surgeons that are under the age of 45 and have been in practice a minimum of three years and a maximum of 10. Examples of leadership training opportunities include personal leadership coaching, traveling to meet women leaders, or specific training programs. Lifeline Student Research Fellowship Award Deadline, March 17, 2009 

The Lifeline Student Research Fellowship, established by the American Vascular Association, stimulates laboratory and clinical vascular research by undergraduate college students and medical school students registered at North American Universities. Each award will consist of a $3,000 student stipend and a two year complimentary subscription to the Journal of Vascular Surgery.
